All-Inclusive Plus Enhancements at Kuredu

From the 1st of November 2017, the All-Inclusive Plus package on Kuredu is growing! The All-Inclusive Plus package is the most frequent meal plan that our guests opt for, and already contains a great range of drinks, meals and activities for all to enjoy. But from the 1st of November, a number of new additions will join the list of benefits to help make your stay even more enjoyable:

– Red, white and Rosé wine from the minibar will be included
– All guests on the All-Inclusive Plus package will receive a demi bottle of champagne during their stay (1 per room)
– A larger range of hot drinks will be included: espresso, cappuccino, latte, macchiato and hot chocolate
– Complimentary, regularly scheduled group yoga sessions with Duniye Spa
These join a list of activities and wine and dine options that include (but are not limited to):
– 30-minute group snorkel introductions, windsurf lessons and golf lessons

Kuredu’s Food and Beverage department is pleased to announce a series of dining events and promotions for September. Mark your calendars and say bon appetit and Pros’ as you enjoy the following special events in the sun or under the sparkling stars and the moon:

Beach Dinners

Following the success of beach dinners in the previous months, more special dinners are planned for September. On the 5th we will be hosting a full moon romantic BBQ, followed up by a Japanese-themed buffet run from The Far East on the 18th.

United Gindom

September is also a special month for any gin lovers out there, as we introduce Kuredu’s “United Gindom” gin menu to the O and Sangu Bars. Featuring a range of international brands, including Herno, which was voted the best gin in the world 2016, and Kuredu’s own line of new, handcrafted gins, featuring New Delhi Gin, Indian Ocean Gin, Kuredu Gin, Colombo Gin.

Life is Brewtiful

If gin is not your cup of tea, head to Sai Kotari, where along with the usual signature teas and coffees available, a number of craft beers and fruit shandies from around the world will be served for those fancying something a little different as part of Kuredu’s “Life is Brewtiful” celebrations.

October Festival

Hurawalhi hosts Martin Stelfox’s Olive Ridley Project

Hurawalhi Maldives hosted Martin Stelfox, founder and CEO of the Olive Ridley Project, for a 4-day visit, during which the resort’s guests and team members received a lot of interesting information about sea turtles and about threats these magnificent animals are exposed to.

Martin joined our guests on two Turtle Tour snorkelling excursions; combined, we visited three different snorkel sites that are known to have resident populations of sea turtles – Kuredu Caves (a.k.a. Turtle Airport), Kuredu Lagoon and Komandoo House Reef – which allowed our guests to not only see these sleepyheads up close and personal, but also to get plenty of fascinating insights from Martin and Lisa, the resort’s resident marine biologist.

The Turtle Tours were charity events and it was with great pleasure to be able to make a generous donation to the Olive Ridley Project that will surely be beneficial to the organisation’s conservations and protection projects across the Indian Ocean.

To show our guest what lurks deeper down beneath the ocean surface, Martin happily accepted Prodivers’ invitation to dive at two of Lhaviyani Atoll’s famous dive sites, Kuredu Express and Kuredu Caves; in total, the divers spotted a whopping 16 green sea turtles! At Caves, the group even met two familiar turtles, Clio and Sapphire.

On Tuesday evening, at the weekly Prodivers’ Divers Night in Coco Bar, Martin gave a talk on sea turtle biology and the mission of the Olive Ridley Project.

To wrap up the visit, Martin joined the excursion to the Turtle Sanctuary at Naifaru to visit the 4 Olive ridley sea turtles that had to be transferred to Naifaru for rehabilitation after being rescued by Hurawalhi and Prodivers. Zoe Cox, the marine biologist of the sea turtle rehabilitation centre, was a great host.

On behalf of everyone at Hurawalhi, including guests who clearly appreciated the knowledge and passion he shared with us, we would like to thank Martin Stelfox for visiting the resort – we look forward to many more common turtle-related projects in the future!

Last but certainly not least, a big ‘well done’ to Paige, Lisa and Martin for having removed a ghost net from the nearby Latheef dive site and thereby prevented the reef from being further damaged and marine life being entrapped.

Kuredu welcomes new General Manager Patrick de Staercke

Kuredu Island Resort & Spa, the Maldives’ second largest resort, has named Patrick de Staercke as its new General Manager.

To those who have had the pleasure to work with Patrick, the appointment does not come as a surprise. His professional background and excellent people skills have been a winning mix for bringing all resorts under his management to new heights; the popularity of one of the Maldives’ most romantic resorts, Komandoo, and the outstanding guest feedback that Hurawalhi is receiving, are examples of Patrick’s determination to exceed bottom line expectations and his drive to attain the best possible performance.

Patrick’s management skills, passion and customer orientation are on par with his bright personality, wit and accommodating nature, which inevitably results in good spirits running high throughout the team. Kuredu Resort’s Celebrities: Wahhab

Kuredu is continuing its Celebrities series by putting the resort’s Excursions Supervisor in the spotlight.

We are pleased to feature Abdul Wahhab Abdul Rahman, known to colleagues and guests as Wahhab.

Wahhab joined Kuredu in 1990 and before becoming the resort’s Excursion Coordinator and later Excursions Supervisor, he had kicked off his Kuredu career by working in the kitchen and as a waiter.

Twenty-seven years later and Wahhab ensures the smooth running of all excursions that our guests join to explore beyond Kuredu. Whether you fancy romantic excursions, fishing ventures, atoll cruises or island hopping trips, Wahhab is the right person to turn to for advice on which excursion would be the most suitable for your desired holiday pace and interests. According to Wahhab, the excursion that guests enjoy the most is the full day sailing as it is really the Maldives in a nutshell; you get to see picture-perfect lagoons, sugar-white beaches, you pass by local islands, plus the odds of seeing dolphins in the wild are high. With a bit of luck, manta rays make an appearance and top off your snorkelling experience. Wahhab still reminisces on two extraordinary manta ray events: ‘I saw a massive manta, it was about 4 meters from wingtip to wingtip! And this time last year, my snorkellers and myself were surrounded by 32 mantas, I will never forget that day!’ One of Wahhab’s favourite snorkelling sites is Kuredu Caves, which is famous for its resident green sea turtle community.

Wahhab enjoys the peace and quiet that the evenings blanket the atoll with: ‘My favourite time to sail across the atoll at sunset, especially at full moon. Everyone who spends their holiday at Kuredu should join us for the Sunset Cruise, it’s such a pleasant trip, not to mention the pods of spinner dolphins that regularly come to show off their talents.’

When Wahhab is not cruising the atoll and guiding snorkellers across nearby coral reefs, he can be seen playing badminton or volleyball. ‘I love everything about Kuredu, but especially the good-quality accommodation, management and owners’ endeavours at making the resort a pleasant place to work, as well as the delicious food and the various recreation options.’

To thank him for his years-long dedication, Wahhab was invited by the management to attend the World Travel Market in London, to Singapore and to Bangkok, where the team got to expand their horizons in the various fields of hospitality, experience big city life and bond with colleagues from Kuredu and other CCR resorts.

Wahhab is one of Kuredu’s longest-serving team members, yet his personality traits haven’t changed all that much in these twenty-seven years. He remains modest and humble, with a great appreciation of the little things that make Kuredu a truly special place for guests and team alike: ‘If I only had twenty-four hours at the resort, I’d like to stay in one of the Garden Bungalows, go on a Sunset Cruise, indulge in rice and curry at Bonthi Restaurant and enjoy the peacefulness at Sai Kotari.
