Oberoi Group signs deal for Maldives resort

The Oberoi Group of India has signed an agreement for a brand new luxury resort in the Maldives. The Indian hotelier signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Subramanya Construction & Development Company (SCDCL) and the Maldivian government recently for the creation of the new resort.
This will mark Oberoi’s first property in Maldives and its second in the Indian Ocean region, following The Oberoi, Mauritius. Details of the new resort have not been revealed. “A luxury resort in Maldives requires expertise in design and operations of world-class standards. We look forward to working with The Oberoi Group to create more of such luxurious offerings globally and would like to say that this extraordinary project will make a major contribution to our long-term partnership,” commented KN Balasubramanyam, chairman & managing director of SCDCL.
PRS Oberoi, executive chairman of The Oberoi Group added; “We are extremely pleased to partner and assist SCDCL in the design and management of the proposed luxury resort. We look forward to bringing the Oberoi hospitality to Maldives.”
Maldives’ tourism minister, Moosa Zameer stated, “With growing demand of luxury hospitality services in Maldives, it is imperative to bring in the best in the industry and our partnership with The Oberoi Group will be a testament to this.”
The Oberoi Group was founded in 1934 and currently operates 30 luxury properties in India, Indonesia, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE. Its pipeline also includes plans for its first hotel in Morocco.The Group is also involved in travel and tour services, car rentals, flight catering, airport restaurants, and project management.
