Maldives to have a 300 Yacht Marina

Hulhumalé Yacht Marina in Maldives to Service 300 Yachts
Director of Asia Pacific Superyachts Maldives, Mohamed Hameed recently reported on new developments in the Maldives, at the new Hulhumalé Yacht Marina, which is expected to offer assistance to 300 yachts.

Phase 2 of Hulhumalé development project has started with land reclamation for the Marina and Cruise Liner area, as recently reported by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). As reported by Mohamed, this is fantastic news for visiting Superyachts and yachts as the Hulhumalé Yacht Marina plan is to service 300 yachts.
The Yacht Marina is a beautiful coastal island proposed to be developed in the western side of Hulhumalé Island and will cater to the needs of yachts and safaris.
In addition to water sports facilities, the marina will feature retail shops, F&B outlets, and a yacht club that includes exhibition space, dry berth facilities and boating dock. A modern fully equipped cruise terminal located right next to the marina with an automatic, covered boarding bridge to facilitate cruise lines visiting Maldives will be also created.
The HDC noted that all necessary materials have been collected for the land reclamation, and revetment work is scheduled to be completed within the next three months. While the Hulhumalé Yacht Marina is planned to offer assistance to 300 yachts and superyachts, the cruise liner will serve the biggest cruise liners in the world.
HDC also announced that the termination of this exciting project is expected to be on schedule. The Cooperation further stated that 240 hectares of land reclamation was completed by March 2015, and the remaining work should be finished within 8 months. While 240 hectares of land has been reclaimed under phase 2, 180 hectares of land were reclaimed in phase 1 of the Hulhumalé development project. The first phase of Hulhumalé development project was aimed to house 60,000 people in 1997.
The Tourism District
Located north of the mainland, the isolated tourism district is bridged to the mainland by two main roads. With the changing trends and market shifts observed in the travel and tourism industry, the developments on this island focuses on high rise developments that cater to the needs and wants of the modern tourist.
The main investment opportunities include 6 major hotels and 74 plots for luxury apartment complexes for tourists. The accompanying facilities and services to be provided in the Tourism district include, and are not limited to, specialized shopping outlets, fine dining and SPA and wellness centers. The district will have a capacity of 3,600 rooms catering to tourists.
Yacht Marina and Cruise Terminal
The Yacht Marina is a splendid coastal island proposed to be developed in the western side of Hulhumalé catering to the needs of yachts and safaris.
With more than 80% of all safaris operated in the Maldives anchored in the lagoon area to the West of Hulhumalé, the proposed Marina will be a vital facility for the Maldivian tourism industry.
